19世纪英国社会活动家兼作家马蒂诺的《时与人》开创了废奴文学的先河，具有极高的文学和社会价值。文章从社会背景、文本特点和所产生的影响等几个方面对作品进行了探讨，以其引起研究界对于该作品的更多关注。
The Hour and the Man,a Historical Romance? written by Harriet Martineau, started the abolition literature off. It is an invaluable book both in literature and social history. This thesis approaches such an epoch-making work from several aspects, aiming to provake due attention to it.
