PSEUDOEXFOLIATION SYNDROME IN A JAPANESE POPULATION: THE HISAYAMA STUDY

Aim: To examine the prevalence and correlates of pseudoexfolia-tion syndrome in a sample Japanese population. Methods: In 1998, a cross-sectional community survey was conducted among residents of Hisayama A total of the 3,054 residents living in Hisayama, Japan, aged 50 years or older, 1,844 (60.4%) consented to participate in the study. Each participant underwent a comprehensive examination that included an ophthalmic exami-
