Narrative Evolution of Contemporary Prose in Taiwan

理论界和散文家本身对于散文观念定义与认知的困惑,使散文现象历来显得比较复杂。叙述观念与叙述方式是散文创作和变革中不可忽视的问题。叙述观点的选择,不仅是技巧层面的问题,它也是作家创作观念、审美能力以及艺术风格的外化体现。诉说———独白———叙述视角转换是台湾当代散文叙述方式演变的三个历程,它显示了台湾散文家对新的散文观念和新的书写模式的不断追求。然而,散文真正面临的危机仍然是来自文类的规范问题。

Both prose theorists and writers have different ways and means to define the genre. If the dissenting voices prevail, it becomes difficult to reach a definitive answer to the same question. Speaking of the literary scene of prose writing, most critics are confronted with the fundamental issues: where to start and how to go from there. It is essential to discuss the conception and mode of narrative in the evolution of prose writing. The selection of the conception of narrative is both the question of narrative techniques and manifestation of prose writer′s creativity, aesthetic value and stylistics. Narrative evolution of contemporary prose in Taiwan has gone through three distinct stages: narrationdepiction, soliloquy, and shifting angles of narrator's vision. What prose writers in Taiwan are striving to create is constantly in search of a new conception and new mode of prose writing. What is at stake, however, is the crisis and confusion evolved from the literary boundary of the prose as a genre.
