沈卫威的学术领域可分为四个板块:东北作家群研究,茅盾研究,胡适研究,吴宓和“学衡派”研究。他的学术研究特色是,将学术成果用传记文学形式表述出来。对人物的叙述不局限细节的考辩和事件的铺陈,而是把握其思想实质,融入大量的学术思考。贯穿其研究的主线是对传统向现代转型时期中国知识分子的深沉思考,意在唤起人们一点历史的记忆和回味,从而更清醒地认识我们自己。

Shen Weiwei' academic knowledge field is divided into four parts: Studying the Northeast Writers' Group; Studying MaoDun, Studying Hu Shi, Studying Wu Mi and 'Xueheng School'. His academick knowledge character is writing the biography literature works in which contains his studying accomplishment. When he was describing characters and events, he not only investigated the truth, but also grasped the characters' ideological nature. The line of studying is the profound thinking about the Chinese intellectuals during the period in which the tradition society was changing into the modern society. His studying aim is that of awakening the history memory and pondering, in order to understand ourselves.
