The results of vacuum refining 45 steel (0.46C) with CaO-based slag indicated that the desulphurization capacity of CaO-CaF 2-Fe 2O 3 slag series and utilization ratio of CaO were increased by using CaO-based premelting slag, and the dephosphorization efficiency of the CaO-based slag was also improved - the sulphur content in steel decreased from 0 031% to less than 0.0024% and the phosphorus content in steel decreased from 0.040% to less than 0.020%.
