With the relation between institution and actor as a clue, this paper sorts out the main theoretical views held by various schools of New Institutionalism that have a great influence in social science fields. It lays special emphasis on the introduction of the theory of Indiana school, which is full of insights into the relation between institution and actor and conducive to the scientific analysis of social phenomena.
