Aim To explore the rehabilitation outcomes of patients in different age groups. Methods 460 patients with primary stroke, including 313 cases aged over 60 years old, 256 males and 57 females with the average age of 47.3 years, and 147 cases aged below 60 years old, 113 males and 34 females with the average age of 66.6 years, who accepted treatment in Boai Hospital of Beijing, were investigated respectively to record length of stay and the changes of activities of daily living(ADL), and then analyze and compare in results between the two age groups. Results The scores of ADLadmission and ADLdischarge of patients aged over 60 years old were 44± 24 and 67± 22 respectively significantly lower than those of patients aged below 60 years old(55± 23 and 78± 17 respectively,t=4.8, 5.4,P< 0.0001). The age showed a negative correlation with ADLadmission and ADLdischarge(r=- 0.31,- 0.32,P=0.00).The length of stay was positively correlated to the age (r=0.11,P=0.01).Conclusion Functional status of older patients is poorer at the time of admission and discharge compared with the younger ones. Functional improvements of older patients younger patients are same. The age of patients is negatively correlated with ADL admission and ADL discharge, and positively correlated to the length of stay, but not correlated to the promotion of ADL.
