《威尼斯商人》是莎士比亚最富社会讽刺意义的现实主义喜剧 ,也是他创作早期到悲剧时期的过渡性作品。在这部戏剧中 ,作家忠于现实 ,宣扬人文主义理想 ,但是理想受到现实的冲击 ,他一次次地动摇、挣扎 ,徘徊于理想与现实之间 ,其理想信念呈波状下滑状态 ,最终大欢喜的结局终究不能挽救其理想在现实中破灭的事实。作家的思想及创作也必将在理想的破灭中升华。

Merchant of Venice is Shakespeare's typical realistic comedy which is full of satire on the society. This play is also his transitional works from his earlier period of creation to his tragic period. In this play, the author is loyal to the reality and publicizes humanism. But his ideal is impacted by the society. He wavered again and again struggling, and wandering between reality and ideal. His creed and ideal are in a state of sliding down. Finally the happy ending can not save save the smashed ideal in the reality.
