席勒论美的批判功能

Schiller's Comment on the Critical Function of Beauties

席勒从人类的历史发展的角度看待人性在现代社会的被摧残,又从人性的恢复完整的途径的角度谈美和艺术的功能,所以,美和艺术的功能首先就是它的批判功能,即批判现代社会对人性的摧残、对人与自然关系的破坏、对人与人的关系的隔绝等等。在席勒那里,这就是对于现代性的批判。换句话说就是,席勒认为,他所处的时代的状况(现代性)是令人忧虑的,必须进行批判的。

From the angle of the historical development of mankind Schiller looked at the devastation of human qualities by modern society, and from the angle of complete recovery of human qualities he looked at the function of the beauties and art. Therefore, their function was at the first place that of criticism, i.e. criticism of modern society's devastation of human qualities, its damage to the relations between man and nature, and its separation of the relations between people, etc. Considering Schiller, it was the criticism of modernity. In other words, he thought the condition of the times he was in (modernity) was worrying, thus should be criticized.
