Theoretical Review on Poems by Song Lian and Gao Bing

明代诗文复古之风盛行。这是因为明代初年 ,刚刚结束了异族统治 ,政治上发生了根本变化 ,文人学士非常思念故国悠久的历史文化 ,这是产生复古思想的现实基础 ;过去的时代也确实产生过许多伟大的作家和作品 ,值得文人学士倾慕。所以明代诗文大都有一种尊古复古的倾向 :写诗学李杜 ;作文学秦汉。

In Ming Dynasty, poetry restoring ancient ways was quite popular. This is because the rule of a different nation was just ended in the early days of Ming Dynasty, political radical changes took place and scholars missed their own culture with a long history, which were the basis to produce the thoughts to restore their ancient ways. Many great writers and compositions had really been produced in the past, which were still worth being admired by scholars. Thus, poetry in Ming Dynasty had the tendency to restore ancient ways. For example, People learned to write poems from Li Bai's and Du Fu's styles and learned literature from styles of Qin and Han Dynasties in this trend. Song Lian and Gao Bing were two representatives in the tide to restore ancient ways in the early days of Ming Dynasty.
