Objective To determine the biological characteristics of three geographically Aedes albopictus strains and their susceptibility to Zika virus(ZIKV).Methods Three strains of Aedes albopictus,Guangzhou(GZ),Shenzhen(SZ)and Enping(EP)were established in the laboratory. The infection rate and somatic tissue distribution of Wolbachia in three mosquito strains were detected. The oral susceptibility of local Aedes albopictus to ZIKV was measured. Results There was no significant difference in the growth cycle among three geographic Aedes albopictus strains. All of them were naturally super infected with Wolbachia,w AlbA and w AlbB,but Wolbachia density in the somatic tissue of Aedes albopictus SZ strain and GZ strain were significantly higher than that of EP strain(P<0.05).After oral infection to Asian ZIKV,three geographic strains of Aedes albopictus could effectively transmit ZIKV.GZ strain was the most susceptible to ZIKV with infection rate91.7%and transmission rate 66.7%.However,the EP strain showed weak transmission ability(54.5%)to ZIKV.Conclusion The susceptibility of three Aedes albopictus strains to ZIKV is different and may be correlated to the Wolbachia density in mosquito tissues.
