This paper takes Murasaki Shikibu's Nikkika as the breakthrough point, then on the basis of concluding the definition of Syakkyoka, recognizes the characteristics of Murasaki Shikibu's Syakkyoka. We consider why though Murasaki Shikibu thought of becoming a Buddhist she did not compose any Wakas that were related to the Buddhist faith as, for example, had Akazome Emon and Izumi Shikibu. The differences of the expressions of prose and verse are then explained, expounding the causes of the prosperity of women's prose literature in the Heian period of Japan.
