Emily Dickinson examined death in her poems from every angle and expressed her real feelings. In order to make her death poems more attractive and vivid, Emily Dickinson had used many rhetorical devices to reach her purposes. She mainly used four rhetorical devices: metaphor, personification, symbolism and synesthesia. It is the skillful mastery of these rhetorical devices that earns Emily Dickinson the title of one of the greatest American poets. This paper just focuses on talking about these rhetorical devices in her death poems.
