Emergence: The New Challenge to Science and Philosophy

突现是自然界中最有魅力也最令人费解的现象,它在上个世纪对一般哲学特别是科学哲学的传统观念产生了巨大的冲击。对它的客观性的承认必定导致对科学解释和科学说明的重新反思及对自然界层次的"多元本体论"的承认。为突现论寻求一个恰当的哲学基础,比为它寻求一个恰当的物理学工具更加重要。在这方面,康德的"自然的无目的的合目的性"思想或许能给我们有益的启示。

Emergence is the most charming and curious phenomenon in nature. It has given a huge shock to general philosophy especially for philosophy of science in the last century. The arguments for its objectivity should lead to reflection of scientific interpretation and admittance to the theory of 'multiontology'. It is more important to seek a philosophical foundation than to find an appropriate physical tool for emergence. In this respect, Kantian idea of 'unintentional intentioality' may bring us beneficial enlightment.
