对澶渊之盟这一历史事件及相关史料进行全面的考察,既试图展示出历史事实较为本质的真相,又揭示出盟约形成的根本原因。在此认识的基础上,指出澶渊之盟是一个不完全平等的条约,但宋朝有限度的妥协让步又是明智的最佳选择,也基本符合封建历史时期中原王朝与游牧友邦交往的惯例,而且,盟约的签定顺应了历史发展的要求,其进步意义是值得肯定的。

The author thoroughly examines the historical incident of Tanyuan Treaty and related historical materials, aiming at unveiling the historical reality and the key reasons for making such a treaty, and points out that Tanyuan Treaty is not a completely equal treaty, however, the Song Dynastys limited compromise is a wise and the best choice, which is in accordance with the communication conventions between Central Plains dynasties and nomad kingdoms in feudal times. Moreover, the treaty making meets the demand of historical development and thus has progressive significance.
