Comments on the Dreams of the Red Mansion by Wang Guowei is a monograph on fictional criticism as well as a programmatic work of the modern Chinese novel criticism . His critique is based on the philosophical esthetics by the means of mixing the western and Chinese theory, with the theme as the object and the freeness of art as the aim. This work is erected as the theoretical and practical paradigm for the modern Chinese novel criticism.
