On the Tales Concerning Sex in the Romance of the Tang Dynasty

该文通过对唐传奇中两性故事的重新解读,目的不在于怎样“评价”这些作品,而是描述这些作品“是什么样子”,并且追问“为什么会这样”,由此发现一系列不同于通行文学史的“意味”。这些作品都以男性的书生意识为中心,各种各样的“女性角色”折射出书生潜意识中对越轨性关系的幻想、对“母亲”的寻找、对“诗中情人”的散文化欣赏。这种“意味”蕴含在特定的人物结构、故事框架、母题、视角等“形式”要素之中,成为“传奇体”的重要叙事特征。

This article explores the tales concerning sex in the Romance of the Tang Dynasty in a new perspective. Its purpose is not to'evaluate', but to explore how these stories'look like'and'why'so as to discover'implication', which is different from current accepted conclusion. These tales are based on male intellectual consciousness, and various'female roles'reflect male yearnings for an impermissible sexual relationship, male seeking for a'mother'and male appreciation to a prose-like lover in poetry. This kind of implication lies in some elements oP'form', such as special structure of characters, story frame, motif and visual angle, which form a significant narrative characteristic in the Tang Romance.
