The New Explanation to the Change of Chinese Thought from Tradition to Modernity

韦政通先生在《中国十九世纪思想史》中对中国思想由“传统”向“现代”的转换作了新的阐释。他强调了中国传统思想对于这种转换的根源性 ,认为中国思想之所以能实现这种转换 ,不仅仅在于来自西方文化和西方思想的巨大冲击 ,而且还在于经世之学和《春秋》公羊学这两大传统资源对转换时代思想家的造就。因此 ,“传统”与“现代”之间不是一种断裂关系 ,而是交错在一起的 ,中国思想正是在这种复杂交错的关系中实现了历史性转换。

The History of Chinese Thought in the 19th Century by Wei zhengtong makes a new explanation to the change of Chinese thought from tradition to modernity. He emphasizes the originality of Chinese traditional thought to this change, and thinks the reasons of Chinese thought's change lie in not only the huge lash from Western culture and Western thought, but also the attainments of thinkers in changing times by two traditional resource including the knowledge of managing state affairs and the knowlege of Chun Qiu Gong Yang. So the relation between tradition and modernity is not broken, but crisscrossed. It is in the complicated and crisscrossed relation that Chinese thought has realized the historical change.
