Forty-two New Zealand rabbits were divided into three groups: control, norepinephrine (NE) -1 and NE-2. NE administered in NE- 1 and NE-2 was 1 mg /kg and 2 mg/kg respectively. Blood samples were taken 12 hr, 24 hr, and 48 hr after NE treatment and the serum level of NE was determined. Semi-quantitatiye histological scoring syslem was adopted to estimate the extent of myocardial damage. NE is found to cause significant myocardial injuries, including myocardial degeneration, necrosis with leucocytic infiltration, thrombus formation, etc. The. severity of the myocardial damage increases with the increment of the amount of NE administered. As dose of NE was increased the mortality rate of rabbits got higher accordingly. The authors assume that an intravenous dose cf NE 1 mg /kg body weight of rabbit is satisfactory for 24 hr experimental observation.
