Objective:To explore the value of EEG in early diagnosis of cerebral ischemia. Methods:The EEG data of 164 patients with acute cerebral infarction were retrospectively analyzed and compared with brain CT.Results:In the early stages(≤72h) of cerebral infarction, the abnormality rate of brain CT was 61 6%,but the EEG abnormality rate was 88 1%,and there was a significant difference between them ( P <0 01).The focal EEG abnormality and generalized EEG abnormalities with focal changes were mainly noted in 82 3% of the patients. The focal alteration in powers of α and δ frequency bands in BEAM might help to localize and lateralize the focus. Conclusions:EEG might be a useful tool for evaluating the acute cerebral ischemia, especially the early stage of cerebral infarction with a negative CT.
