以毛泽东为核心的党的第一代领导集体高度重视文化建设 ,提出了建立无产阶级领导的人民大众的反帝反封建的新民主主义文化的思想。邓小平继承、发展和丰富了马克思主义毛泽东思想的文化思想 ,提出了“两手抓、两手都要硬”、培养“四有”新人等重要思想 ,将社会主义文化建设概括为社会主义精神文明建设 ,使其理论体系跃上一个新的台阶。江泽民同志关于我们党代表中国先进文化的前进方向的重要论断 ,为新时期的文化建设进一步指明了方向 ;并将它与其它两个“代表”连在一起并列提出 ,体现了与时俱进的马克思主义理论品质。

The first generation leadership with Mao Zedong at the core have paid great attention to the culture construction and put forward establishing the new-democratic cultural thought of the Chinese people's anti-imperialism and feudalism led by proletariats. Deng Xiaoping inherited, developed and enriched the cultural thought of Marxism and Mao Zedong thought and put forward the thought of “doing two types of work at the same time and attacking equal importance to both” and cultivated people with socialist thouht. He summarized socialist cultural construction as the construction of socialist civilization and thus made this theoretic system leaped to a new step. Comrade Jiang Zemin's important thought of Chinese Communist Party represents the orientation of China's advanved culture pointed the direction for the cultural construction in the new period. He put forward that the Chinese Communist Party should represent the orientation of advanced culture, and it should be linked with the other“two represents”together. This embodied Marxism's theoretic quality of keeping pace with the times.
