Commentary on the Art of language in Bi Feiyu's Early Novels

毕飞宇的前期小说,追求观赏性和耐人寻味,讲求语言的新奇特,喜用修辞手法,尤擅长使用比喻、词语的移用、精确的数据等辞格。他的小说在平平常常的叙事中总要夹杂进预言与寓言般的话语,使小说充满思想与理性。但其小说也存在以性为喻,言必涉“性”及相应器官和行为的现象。其小说语言既是准确精致的,又是飘逸夸张的;既是感性生动的,又是理性哲理的;既有含蓄雅致的一面,又有肆无忌惮的俗气的一面。

Bi Feiyu's early novels pursued for the senses of appreciation and flavor, stressed on the novelty, speciality and unique use of language. He preferred to use various rhetoric style, especially adept at the figure of speech, such as metaphor and transferring words. In his simple description of stories, there always included some predictions and tales, which make the stories full of thoughts and reasoning. Nevertheless, his novels turned out to mension sex in a figurative way, relating with sex and its related organs and behaviors. The language in his novels is accurate and delicate, elegant and exaggerating, vivid and logical, tasteful as well as garish.
