本文从勒内·韦勒克对库尔提乌斯的误解说起,分析了《欧洲文学与拉丁中世纪》自问世以来便饱受争议的原因、创作动机与研究价值,进一步探讨本书在"文学性""整体性"以及如何处理细化与整体化之间的关系方面所给予比较文学的启示。笔者认为该书语文学和史学相结合的探索方法仍然为当今比较文学研究指明了方向。

The thesis begins with René Wellek’s misunderstandings about Ernst Curtius,and analyzes the controversial causes of European Literature and Latin Middle Ages since the advent of it,as well as its creative motive and research values. The comparative literature inspiration of the book is further discussed from the aspects of 'literariness','integrity'and how to deal with the relationship between refinement and integration. The methods of combining philology and history studies that explored in the book can still indicate the direction of comparative literature research today.
