人际功能视角下语气副词“本来”英译的语料库考察

A Corpus Study of the Translation of Mood Adverb “Benlai” from the Perspective of Interpersonal Function

本研究基于系统功能语言学人际功能的传递理论,以《围城》等五部长篇小说的英译本为语料,对语气副词"本来"人际情态意义的英译状况进行量化统计和定性分析,旨在从翻译过程中人际意义对等的层面探讨表达人际功能的语气副词的翻译运作机制。研究发现:半数"本来"的人际意义在译文中能以多种适当的语法手段或翻译策略准确呈现,部分"本来"的人际意义在译文中未能得以传递,少数"本来"的人际意义在译文中出现偏误。译者应根据"本来"所处的原文语境,采取灵活多变的翻译策略,准确传递语气副词所蕴含的情态意义,实现翻译过程中人际意义的对等传递。

Based on the interpersonal function of the system function linguistics theory,with the English translations of 5 Chinese novels such as Fortress Besieged as the corpus,the study makes quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis of the interpersonal meaning of the Chinese modal adverb'Benlai',in hope of discussing the translation mechanism of mood adverbs expressing interpersonal function from the aspect of interpersonal meaning equivalence.It is found that one-half of the'Benlai'interpersonal meanings can be accurately represented in the English translation by various appropriate grammar means or translation strategies,some of the'Benlai'interpersonal meanings cannot be transmitted in the translation text,and still a few of the'Benlai'interpersonal meanings have errors in the translation.The translator should adopt flexible translation strategies according to the original context and accurately convey the modal meaning contained in the modal adverbs,so as to achieve the equivalent transmission of interpersonal meaning in the translation process.
