The cover photo shows the upper part of the Rio Caldo valley in the Peneda-Geres National Park(Portugal). It is the only national park in Portugal, established in 1971. Among the most important values of the protected area are:relief formed by the last glaciation, quite dramatic altitude variations and the mixture of various climatic influences (Atlantic, Mediterranean and continental) that enabled the presence of bushes, oaks and pine or birch forests.
