Modernity and the Fate of the Significant World

通过对"现代"一词的历史溯源,我们发现"现代性"最初要拒斥的并非基督教的信仰,而是基督教教会的权威。但伴随着世俗化的进程,工具理性成为理性的惟一表现形式,并取代"上帝"成为新的权威。这一变迁在哲学上表现为主体主义信念的极端化和宗教信仰的多元化。事实上,理性并不能满足人对自身有限性的超越,"轴心时代"所确立的意义世界仍旧不能够被取代。

Through the historical origin of the word"modern",we found that the"Modernity" to the initial re-jection is not the Christian faith,but the Christian Church authority. But along with the process of secularization, the instrumental reason has become the only form of rationality,and replaces the"God" to become the new authori-ty. This change showed extreme individualistic faith and religious pluralism in philosophy. In fact,rationality can’ transcend self-control,the svgnificant world established by the Axial Age still could not be replaced.
