What is the function orientation of Chinese social work and what is its development direction? Clarifying these basic issues is the task of social work basic theory. In consideration of the status and problems of Chinese social work in background, this paper explains the content and classification of the existing basic social work theories in the West and the core thought of the'life world-oriented'social work theory, and put forward the urgency and strategic significance of construction of social work basic theory for Chinese Mainland.
