作为近代苏南宗族生活的权力中心,义庄不仅救恤宗族成员,而且担当教化、管理族众的职责,起到了社会整合的作用。义庄宣扬忠孝节义等纲常伦理,用一纸庄籍牢牢地将族众凝聚在宗族聚居的区域内,并通过种种庄禁,让其各安其职,不越礼法,既整肃了人心风俗,又从根本上维护了封建基层社会的差序格局。

As the power center of the clan life,the yizhuang had played an important role in social integration.They not only benefited the clan members,but also acted as enlightenment and managed all members’ responsibilities.The yizhuang advocated feudal ethics such as Loyalty,Filial piety,Chastity and Righteousness,constrained the clan members to obey laws and clan rules.The Yizhuang used a family household register to firmly condense the clan members in the clan clustering area.Through a variety of bans,the Yizhuang let each one comply with their duties,not to violate ethical and legal regulations,purging public customs,keeping society stable and finally safeguarding the Diversity-orderly Structure in feudal society.
