基于语料库的《红楼梦》两种英译本的翻译风格研究

Corpus-Based Translation Style Research on English Version of The Dream of Red Mansion

基于现代语料库的技术,通过自建小型语料库,利用语料库检索软件Ant Conc3.2.1w对霍克斯译本和杨宪益译本的类符/形符、形符数、平均词长、高频词、平均句长、语篇衔接等方面进行对比和分析。结果表明:这两种译本具有一个共同的翻译特点,均倾向于运用相对普通及通俗易懂的词汇和语言,以便于西方读者更容易理解译文的内容;词汇层面上,杨宪益译本强调译作的文学特点而霍克斯译本的用词相对狭窄,表达也更加口语化;句法层面上,霍克斯译本的平均词长比杨宪益译本的平均词长更长,这表明霍克斯在翻译《红楼梦》中较倾向于增添修饰词语;语篇层面,杨宪益则倾向于运用连接词作为衔接手段而霍克斯则倾向于运用介词短语作为衔接手段。

Through modern corpus softw are technology and self-established small-scale corpus,this paper applies corpus search softw are Ant Conc3. 2. 1w to perform statistics of token numbers,type /token,average w ord length,etc,and find out different translation version characteristics betw een Yang Xianyi's translation version and Haw ke's translation version. Generally,these tw o translation versions all tend to use common and plain vocabulary so that w estern readers are easy to read and understand. Based on vocabulary application,Yang Xianyi stresses literary features of translation version w hile Haw kes' vocabulary application is relatively narrow and more colloquial. Based on syntax,average sentence length of Haw kes is longer than Yang Xianyi. It indicates that Haw kes tends to add modifier during translation. Based on discourse,Haw kes tends to use prepositional phrase as connection w hile Yang Xianyi tends to use conjunctions as his connection.
