Traditional methods of literary ' criticism can unlock the literary treasures of the Bible. The idea of the Bible -as -literature began with biblical writers themselves, and it is possible to trace how scholars and literary authors have interacted with the literary aspects of the Bible throughout history. This essay covers what it means that the Bible is literature, how literary approaches to the Bible can enhance our understanding of the Bible, and a history of the idea of the Bible-as-literature.
