The 'King James' translation of the Bible in 1611 had a growing influence upon the rhetoric of formal English and the formation of English authors, beginning shortly after its publication until completely dominant or authoritative by early in the 20th Century. It has been so powerful as a cultural influence that it has been the Bible of literary choice for quotation by English authors whether Catholie, Protestant or non-religious, and has thus come to be regarded as itself perhaps the most foundational of English literary texts.
