Ambiguity of the Sarah Narrative and Its Implied Clan Tradition

撒拉被上帝称为'多国之母',是以色列人的第一位女性始祖。然而,有关撒拉的故事却充满了模糊性:她在妻-妹场景中默然无声,对使女夏甲冷酷无情,在'捆绑以撒'中隐身缺席,均为解读这个人物增加了难度。但若从家族传统的角度分析,却可以发现该故事中隐含着家族叙事与普世叙事的冲突或张力。这些冲突表现在家族婚姻、家族承续、家族仪式等方面。

Sarah is called 'the mother of nations' by God,and she is remembered as the first matriarch of the Israelites. But the stories about Sarah in the Book of Genesis are foll of ambiguity: her silence in the 'wife-sister scene,' her ruthlessness to Hagar,her absence during the 'binding of Isaac.' But if analyzed from the perspective of Israelite clan traditions, we find that the stories about Sarah display conflicts or tensions between a universal narrative and a clan narrative, seen in various aspects of endogamy, family inheritance and clan ritual.
