The horizontal arch ring type and its shape optimization are the two important considerations in arch dam design.In the initial design of Shuishimen arch dam a suggestion has been put forward that three different kinds of designs of parabolic arch,logarithmic spiral arch and blending curve arch with different curves on the left and right of the arch may be used for comparation in order to realize the optimization of th arch ring type and arch shape.
