文化聚合观促进民族交往:中华民族认同的中介作用

Facilitation of Polyculturalism to Ethnic Interaction:The Mediating Role of Chinese National Identity

文化理念反映了个体对文化差异及文化间边界的看法,会影响到群际互动。文化聚合观强调文化间的联系和互动,为理解族群关系提供了一个新的视角。本研究采用问卷调查,选取219名苗族学生作为样本,试图验证文化聚合观对民族交往的促进作用,并探索二者间关系的产生机制。研究结果发现:文化聚合观越强,中华民族认同感越强;文化聚合观和中华民族认同积极预测民族交往;中华民族认同在文化聚合观和民族交往之间起部分中介作用。

Cultural ideology reflects one’s perception of cultural differences and intercultural boundaries,which will have an influence on social interaction.Different cultural ideologies have their respective understanding of intergroup relationship.Compare with colorblindness which ignores difference,and multiculturalism which attaches importance to group category,polyculturalism focuses on influences and connections among different cultures,which is more in line with the true form of culture development and therefore provides a new approach to understand ethnic relations.In addition,as a relational cultural mindset,the endorsement of polyculturalism may activate one’s consciousness of Chinese National Community.The current research aimed to verify the role of polyculturalism in promoting ethnic interaction and explore their mechanism using the questionnaire survey with a sample of 219 Miao college students.As for the indicator of ethnic interaction,contact quantity and quality,out-group attitude and social distance were chosen.The results were as follows:(1)Correlational analysis showed that the endorsement of polycultural ideology was positively related to Chinese national identity(r=0.30,p<0.01);(2)Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that,af-ter controlling for the effects of region of origin,language use and school type,the model was statistically significant except for the index of contact quantity,indicating that both polyculturalism and Chinese national identity can predict the ethnic interaction positively.Polyculturalism and Chinese national identity commonly explained 14.2%,23%,32.5%of the variance for contact quality,out-group attitude and social distance;(3)multiple regression analysis found that Chinese national identity mediated the relationship between polyculturalism and ethnic interaction on the index of contact quality,out-group attitude and social distance.
