Zadeh把模糊限制语分为两大类,第一类是直接修饰模糊词的,第二类是说明它们分别从那些方面作用于模糊词的。模糊限制语与语用学中的礼貌原则、合作原则等有着密切的联系。模糊限制语的翻译主要包括对等译法、增加译法、删减译法、变异译法、灵活处理译法。

Vagueness is a common feature of natural language, while hedges are one of the most important features of vague language. After discussing about the categories and pragmatic functions of hedges, this paper attempts to study the translation principles and translation methods of hedges, by analyzing A Dream of Red Mansions translated by Yang Hsien-yi and Gladys Yang.
