中国的'海上丝绸之路'和'陆上丝绸之路'应发端于先秦时代。《圣经》把中国人称为'丝国的人',把中国称为'丝国'。最初'丝绸之路'的概念,是外国人认识中国的视野和知识体系。'海上丝绸之路'是最古老的、延续时间最长的世界海洋贸易通道,将中国文化传播世界并影响世界文明进程,是世界各国认识中国的钥匙和符号。

Both the maritime and land silk roads began way before the Qin Dynasty. The Bible referred China as the Country of Silk and the Chinese People as the Silk People. The concept of the Silk Road was first proposed by Westerners as a perspective to understand the mysterious country. The Maritime Silk Road is perhaps the oldest and the most endured ocean trade route, and it helped promote the culture of China to a better part of the world. It did influence the progress of civilizations along its way, while providing a key for other countries to better understand China.
