西气东输管道工程是一项世界级的宏大工程 ,该工程作为我国西部大开发标志性工程之一 ,不但有利于加快新疆以及我国西部地区经济的发展 ,促进我国能源结构的调整 ,有效治理大气污染 ,促进长江三角洲地区的经济快速发展 ,而且标志着我国天然气工业发展新时期的到来 ,极大地带动了整个天然气工业的全面发展 ,是一个非常重要而具有划时代意义的里程碑 。

As one of the significant projects of the national development programs in western China, the construction of West-to-East Gas Transmission Project will quicken the economic development of Xinjiang and western China, accelerate the energy structure adjustment of China, effectively lighten air pollution, promote the economic development of the Delta district along the Yangtze River. This project is also a symbol for the coming of new development term in Chinese gas industry, greatly drive the overall development of natural gas industry, which has epoch-making significance. This paper describes the important significance of West-to-East Gas Transmission Project for the development of Chinese natural gas industry from four aspects.
