Decline of the “Eight Banners”

清朝创立前后的满、汉、蒙古八旗,曾创造了几乎屡战屡胜的辉煌战绩。而在入关之后,它却走了一条与历史的前进成反比的悲怆之路,由威武强大历经衰败而没落。这其中的警示是,随着社会的发展,尤其是军事装备和军事技术的不断更新与进步,战争理念、战争模式、战略战术、军队编组训练也必然发生相应的变化。以变应变是军事变革的常态,一支军队只有紧跟时代潮流,通过不断的改革适应时代尤其是战争的需要,才能永远立于不败之地。

The eight banners established by the Manchu before the establishment of the Qing Dynasty used to created the miracles of scoring one victory after another. However, after conquering the entire territory of China, the Manchu stepped on a road contrary to its historic progressive way, which made the Qing Dynasty decline from being powerful to being poor. The caution give by the decline of the Qing Dynasty is that with the social development, especially with the constant innovations and progress of military equipment and military technologies, the war idea, war mode, strategic tactics and army training should have corresponding changes. Coping with shifting evens with changing is the normality for military reforms. Only by following the trends of the times and by constant reforms to adapt to the needs of the times, especially the needs of the war, can one army never be defeated.
