A Brief Review of Imperial Provincial Military Examination and Martial Arts in Yunnan

明清时期,武举武学在云南的社会影响逐渐加深。这与中央加强边疆统治有关,是文官主掌中央与地方军事组织情况日益制度化的体现,更是云南主动融入全国科举社会的努力之一,是地方与中央博弈与妥协的结果,是家族、个人利益最大化方式之一。

During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the social influence of the imperial provincial military examinations and martial arts gradually deepened, which had relationship with the central government’s strengthening the administration of frontier regions. It also displayed the system that the civil officials had grasped the power to control and military organizations of both the central and local governments. It also showed Yunnan’s efforts to volunteer to merge itself into the national imperial examinations. It was result of the struggle and concession of the local and central governments as well as one of the methods to maximize the interests of both the kinsfolks and individuals.
