My View on the Xiangjiang Campaign

湘江战役的残酷性和惨烈性,在人民军队乃至现代世界战争史上,屈指可数。湘江战役是"3+1"战场的战斗,研究上,要将湘江战役的作战指挥与通过湘江封锁线的领导决策区别开来,明确湘江战役空前惨烈的根本原因在于领导决策错误。可参考毛泽东对长征的评价,对湘江战役作出全面、科学的评价。中央红军血战湘江、突破敌人铁壁合围的伟大革命精神,湘江战役为实现遵义会议历史转折提供的契机和基础,以及牺牲的3万多革命先烈,都值得永久纪念。

In the history of the people's army and even the modern world wars,there were few battles like Xiangjiang campaign,which was known for its cruelty and brutality. The Xiangjiang campaign was the fighting on the ' 3 + 1 ' battlefield. During the research,we should distinguish the operational command of Xiangjiang campaign and the leadership decision of passing through the Xiangjiang blockade line,and make clear that the unprecedented tragic battle in Xiangjiang was fundamentally due to the leadership decision error. By referring to Mao Zedong's evaluation of the long march,we could make a comprehensive and scientific evaluation of the Xiangjiang campaign. The Central Red Army's bloody battle in Xiangjiang; the great revolutionary spirit of breaking through the enemy's iron wall encirclement; the campaign providing an opportunity and foundation for the realization of the historical turning point in the Zunyi conference; and the sacrifice of more than 30 thousand martyrs; were all worth a permanent memorial.
