As a feminist methodological tool,FPDA(Feminist Post-structuralist Discourse Analysis)analyses the ways in which speakers negotiate identities, relationships and status, and constitute power relationships by how they are positioned from interwoven and competing discourses. From analyzing a corpus of spoken English from business English classroom, this paper aims to explore how effective speakers are more powerfully positioned. This paper also investigates how an FPDA approach could be applied to the business English classroom context. The value of this research is that it can help educators to become aware of discursive practices which control students’interactions in class and therefore provide some insights into gender in the ESL/EFL research.
