Doctoral programs in mathematics education in USA have been nearly 100 years history since its establishment,there has been a steady development in the last 30 years,and a complete set of curriculum system was formed.Institutions award two doctoral degrees specializing in mathematics education--the doctor of philosophy in education(Ph.D.) and the doctor of education(Ed.D.).A high-quality doctoral programs in mathematics education could include five key areas,namely mathematics courses,education courses,mathematics education courses,research methods courses,professional experiences,and a dissertation.The two courses with strongest emphasis in most institutions are Research in Mathematics Education and Research Methods in Mathematics Education.
