The second generation of New York intellectuals are a group of influential liberal intellectuals who were active in American politics,ideology and culture from the 1930 sto the 1980 s.They sharply criticized the New Left student movement and the Counter-cultural movement in the 1960 s,accusing them of irrational rebellious logic and tactics.The selfless spirit and lofty moral sense embodied in the New Left students’intergenerational rebellion not only caused great damage to individuals but also to society;the participatory democracy the New Left students advocated and the counter culture they practiced have undermined the foundation of American liberal democracy and traditional morality,and initiated many social problems in contemporary American society.The second generation of New York intellectuals’immediate observation and criticism of the New Left student movement were closely related to their life experience,education,cultural atmosphere and social backgrounds.
