核雕艺术源远流长,始于春秋,盛行于唐代,繁荣发展于明清时期。潍坊核雕早期的情形,由于史书不详,已不可考。据说,早在清代中期,潍坊核雕已十分兴盛,其中成就较高。
Fruit pit carving is a Chinese traditional folk handicraft which began in the Spring and Autumn period and became popular in the Tang Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it reached a high point. Fruit pit carving in Weifang became popular in the early Qing Dynasty and chose peach pit as material. It finally formed its unique characteristics through continuous effort for generations, elegant, unsophisticated, fine and exquisite. However, this art was nearly lost to the world because of people’s indifference to traditional culture and the difficulty of the carving skill. With the development of protection for the intangible cultural heritage, the peach pit carving in Weifang has been well protected and inherited, and has become the most gorgeous flower among Weifangfolkart.
