From "the Needham Problem" to Sivin's theory of the scientific revolution in the 17th-century China

通过对"李约瑟难题"研究的系统考察,对李约瑟难题的解答中所面临的困境进行了比较系统全面的分析,特别是对席文解答的分析,指出李约瑟难题所依存的观念语境依然是科学西方主义,只不过是温和的科学西方主义.在席文的中国17世纪科学革命说的基础上,对中国近代科学革命的内涵、特点及意义进行了探讨.

Through the survey of 'the Needham Problem', the paper has made a systematic analysis of the difficulty in solving the problem. An analysis of Sivin's solution, in particular, points to the fact that the conceptual context for the Needham Problem is an instance of Science Westernism or a mild Science Westernism. On the basis of Sivin's theory of the scientific revolution in the 17thcentury China, the paper has also made a study of the implication, characteristics and significance of the scientific revolution in modern China.
