民族文学作为世界文学的一部分,存在于世界文化的大系统中。民族文学不是一条静止不变的河流,其发展总是根据某种传统文化的内在需要,在与外界不断交往、比较和交融中,吸收外来文化来丰富发展自己,形成与其文化相互影响,自身前后承继的生命系统。

A nation's literature exists in an international systematic relationship as an element of world literature. National literature is not a still unchangeable river. It develops according to the inherent demands of some certain traditional culture; and through constant contacting, comparing and blending with foreign influence, it has formed its own particular life system.
