A Reading of V.S.Naipauls“Travel of Writing”

在长达半个多世纪的“写作之旅”中,奈保尔以后殖民社会为主要写作对象,以想象与纪实为写作手段,以尖锐的批评为写作目的。他作为“有机知识分子”的写作实践,呈现为虚构作品日渐衰落与非虚构写作日益加强的过程。虽然其右翼立场决定了他的写作难免失之偏颇,但是他的作品也确实展示了后殖民社会的部分真相,使之成为在当今西方知识界有重要影响的作家。

Throughout his over fifty-years'' travel of writing' , V. S. Naipaul has been writing mainly about the post-colonial societies. By means of either imagination or documentation , he has had as his writing purpose the keen-edged criticism. In the process of his writing practice as an ' organic intellectual' , Naipaul has demonstrated a decline of fiction and a simultaneous strengthening of non-fiction. Although his right-wing position determines his one-sid-edness, his writings do present some of the facts in post-colonial societies, and make him quite influential among Western intelligentsia.
