《左传》有目的有意识地引用了相当数量的谣谚。这在相当程度上体现了作者的民间意识;提示我们在以诗证史的同时,可以通过谣谚证史;对后世乐府运动的兴起、新的韵文体的出现、"真诗在民间"理论的提出,有一定的启发作用。此举还大大地丰富了《左传》的内涵,提升了其作为正统史书的价值,对历代史书的体例,也产生了深远的影响。
