A Semiotic Approach to Intercultural Verbal Communication

语言符号是符号的主要类别之一,它也是由“能指”与“所指”组成。在跨文化语言交际中,如果交际者双方能明确同一能指在不同文化中有不同的所指,区分和建立多种文化的差异和联系,有意识地培养对母语文化和目的语文化的敏感性,便能实现和提高交际的有效性。

Linguistic sign, one of the main sign categories, consists of the signifier and the signified, both of which are intimately united, forming an inseparable unit like the two sides of a paper. A same signifier is related simultaneously to two or more than two signifieds in different cultural contexts. Therefore,in intercultural communication, in order to acquire efficient and effective communication, we should try to distinguish between source and target cultures, relate them to each other, and increase our cultural awareness and sensitivity.
