On the Aesthetic Thoughts on Chinese Classical Gardens

中国古典园林以崇尚自然写意著称,这种造园风格和造园思想植根于中国传统哲学的深厚土壤。中国古典园林美学观的定型可分为六朝崇尚自然的园林美学观的形成、中唐追求写意的园林美学观的生发和宋明写意园林美学观的成熟三个时期,并分别受到六朝玄学、中唐禅宗及宋明理学这三种传统哲学思想的深入影响。

The connotation of Chinese classical gardens is deeply absorbed from Chinese traditional philosophy. This paper divides the development of the natural and symbolist aesthetic thoughts on Chinese classical gardens into three stages, which were strongly influenced by three traditional Chinese philosophy schools, i.e. metaphysical sect in the Wei\|jin Dynasties, Buddhism and Zen in the mid\|Tang Dynasty and rationalism in the Song and Ming Dynasties.
